The Maileg Guide

Maileg (pronounced My-Lie) is a Danish design brand of unique and high quality children’s soft toys and accessories.

Dorthe and Erik Mailil founded Maileg in 1999 and combined their last name “Mailil” with “leg”, the Danish word for play, to create the name of their beautiful brand. Dorthe’s passion for design started as a child and led her to enrol in the prestigious Danish Design school later on. During her time at the L’ecole D’art de Marseille and Paris, she put the first sketches and designs for Maileg’s toys to paper.

Maileg’s mission is to create toys that spread joy and bring the magic of childhood to every home. Maileg’s whimsical personalities come to life through creative details and their adorable mice and rabbits together with the thoughtfully designed range of gorgeous accessories invite children to create their own world of play and explore the pure and simple wonder of imagination. Made with love, care and the highest quality standards, Maileg’s collectible toys are made to be cherished, shared with friends and passed on from generation to generation.

Maileg believes the protection of the environment is an important issue and they work hard to improve their production by only using the best and most environmentally friendly production facilities. Maileg mainly uses recycled or FSC certified cardboard and paper for their packaging and only uses polybags when there is no other option to protect their products from dust and moisture.

Sizing Guide: Mice

Sizing Guide: Mice

Are they all the same but in different clothes?

Each mouse is unique, even the ones in the same collection (RoyalsHikersSuperheroes etc.) Given each mouse is handmade, no two are ever identical.

Generally, each mouse will have a different body. Some are plain, while others will have a built-in bodysuit or undergarment. Their ear colour may also vary.

What range of clothing and accessories fit each mouse?

The beauty of the Maileg mice is that you can swap clothing and accessories within the same size range. All product names and descriptions advise which range of mice the accessory or clothing item is intended for, e.g. "Big Brother", "Little Sister" etc.

Please refer to the table below, provided by Maileg, for a complete overview of the mice sizing. All measurements are taken from the tips of the ears to the feet (length) and arm span (width).

Sizing Guide: Bunnies & Rabbits

What's the difference between the Bunnies and Rabbits?

Generally (but not always), 'Bunnies' refer to the girls, and 'Rabbits' refer to the boys. Bunnies have their ears down, while the Rabbits have their ears up. The ears account for some extra length in the Rabbits. All measurements are taken from the tips of the ears to the feet (length) and arm span (width). Due to Maileg’s handmade nature, measurements are approximate.

Please refer to the table below, provided by Maileg, for a complete overview of the Bunnies and Rabbits sizing.

What sizes do you recommend for creating a family?

When planning a Bunny and Rabbit family, you might like to consider a My Rabbit to portray a baby, whilst the Micro Rabbits & Bunnies represent a young child or toddler. The Size 1 Rabbits and Bunnies could portray both older children and adults.

Size 1 is close to Mini, Size 2 is a completely new size that is in between the Mini and Medium size. Thereafter, the sizes can be compared; Size 3 to Medium, Size 4 to Maxi, and Size 5 to Mega. The old Mega maxi size has been discontinued.

Maileg Dolls' Houses and Furniture

The range of houses within the Maileg range may be limited, but that's not to say they aren't mighty. The Maileg Doll House, also sometimes referred to as the Maileg Mansion, is the perfect blank canvas for imaginative family play. If you prefer a more fantastical home for your treasured friends, consider the Castle Collection. All three parts of each collection can be used as stand-alone pieces, but are designed to be used in conjunction with one another.

What furniture and dolls are suited to each Maileg Dolls' House?

Generally, the Miniature Furniture range is best suited to the Doll House and bonus rooms and the Micro and My Ranges for the Castle Collection. Most items in the Miniature range run too large for the Castle Collection. For example, the popular Fridge won't fit. However, some things, like the Fireplace, will fit. We recommend always cross-checking the measurements (found on each product's page on our website) with the castle or house you own before purchasing.

Alternatively, we invite you to send us a message via our website with your question, and we are always happy to offer advice or clarity before making your purchase.

Please refer to the Bunnies and Rabbits sizing table above, which also details furniture sizes appropriate for each category.

Are Maileg Mice, Bunnies, Rabbits and furniture compatible with other Dolls' Houses?

If you want to incorporate Maileg elements into an existing or different branded Dolls' House, you must consider the scale.

Dolls' Houses come in a range of sizes/scales. 1:12 is a common scale and is generally the most widely available choice for young children. This sized dollhouse will generally feature doorways that are between 15-19cm tall and is ideal for the Maileg mouse family along with the My Rabbit, Micro Rabbit and Micro Bunny.

Dollhouses that are scaled to 1:6 fit the Micro and Size One Rabbits and Bunnies well.

Maileg furniture varies between 1:12 and 1:6 scale; their furniture sizing is unique to the brand and differs between each piece. This means that with a different house, some pieces of furniture would look exceptionally large, particularly in scale to the ceiling height.
