What is Bookish Play and why should I consider it?
Bookish Play is any play based activity centred around a book. It's that simple!
Bookish Play helps children to develop a deeper understanding of the story, can assist in expanding vocabulary and provides opportunities to practice sequencing and retelling. It's fabulous for reluctant readers, can enhance comprehension and is, importantly, lots of fun!
There are so many ways to engage in Bookish Play. For this example, we used The Gruffalo... "Oh help! Oh no! It's a Gruffalo!"
If you try this fun activity at home with your little learners, please take a photo and share it with us on Instagram and Facebook, tagging @oskarswoodenark and using the hashtag: #oskarslittlelearners.
Step 1:
Setup your bookish play.
Here we've used the Gruffalo Wooden Theatre along with some of the figurines and other small world items to encourage play and invite imagination.
Step 3:
Watch the play unfold! Our first activity is more structured we're taking turns retelling the story. The second is a simple story basket containing resources for exploring the Gruffalo through play.
