This activity is the first of two hands-on guides from our NAIDOC Week Play and Craft Ideas series, where we explore how play, art, and creative expression can open meaningful conversations about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
First Nations Australians have used nature as a medium for art for tens of thousands of years - from hand stencils pressed into rock faces to paintings created with ochre, bark, and earth. This activity draws on that living tradition, inviting children to create their own nature-inspired artwork using materials found at home or gathered from outdoors. It's an experience that connects hands to Country, and curiosity to culture.
