Explore Nature by creating Transient Mirror Art
An #OSKARSLITTLEEXLORERS Activity Tutorial by Jess @learnandbloom, for Oskar's Wooden Ark
October 13, 2021
Let’s explore nature and spend some time outdoors creating wonderful artworks with natural materials. This week, Jess and her children are creating transient art using nature loose parts and Grapat mandala pieces.
What is transient art?
Transient art is a creative and process-orientated art experience for children. The resulting artwork is non-permanent and children can manipulate and explore loose parts on a flat surface in as any ways as they choose.
Transient Art promotes creativity and gives children the ability to create and explore materials without pressure. Mirrors are a great way to explore reflection but you could also use a picture frame or work directly on the ground. Children can creatively experiment with loose parts to create unique masterpieces!
If you try this fun activity at home with your little explorers, please take a photo and share it with us on Instagram and Facebook, tagging @oskarswoodenark and using the hashtag: #oskarslittlelearners.
You will need:
· Nature loose parts
· Grapat mandala pieces
· Grapat rings & coins
· Mirrors or frames
Step 1
Gather nature loose parts, Grapat mandala pieces, rings & coins as well as a mirror or frame and set everything up, ready for the kids to use.
Step 2
Invite children to create transient art with the loose parts by simply laying the different objects onto the mirror or frame. Sky, clouds and trees are reflected in the mirror - an ever-changing background.
Step 3
Let the kids explore patterns, colours and shapes. They can create as many unique artworks as they wish.
Step 4
Observe and Create - Invite kids to get inspired by their surroundings. It's a great activity to do outside, if the weather allows.
