BRIO is one of the oldest wooden toy manufacturers in the world and has been around since the late 1800s. BRIO’s story began in 1884 when Ivar Bengtsson started selling woodchip baskets in Denmark. In the early 1900s Ivar and his wife moved to Osby, Sweden, where they expanded their product range and started creating and selling wooden toys for children. In 1908 the Bengtssons transferred the company over to their three sons who officially named the company BRIO - an acronym for the Ivarsson brothers of Osby (BRöderna Ivarsson Osby).

Under the directorship of the three brothers the company continued to flourish while keeping the focus on selling wooden toys for children. Over the years BRIO established itself as an internationally well known brand designing and creating many popular wooden toys like BRIO’s iconic train set. Having been the Purveyor to the Royal Court Of Sweden since the 1940s highlights BRIO’s continuity of extraordinary craftsmanship and quality products.

BRIO celebrated its 130th anniversary in 2014 and promised to “pay tribute to the importance of play, celebrating the child within us”. Focussing on free play is becoming more and more important in our fast paced and time-poor world. BRIO’s emphasis on play goes hand in hand with Oskar’s Wooden Ark’s philosophy of supporting you and your family with only the best and most beneficial sustainable toys.

Mesmerising toy

We gifted this train to our two year old daughter for her birthday along with the Schoeliner Marble Run Serpentine. The train travels perfectly down (and up in reverse!) the ball run giving both toys a new dimension of play. Very easy to recharge and battery lasts for a long time.

No more endless batteries!

Seriously amazing product! I’ve always held off on buying battery operated engines because I just can’t fathom the amount of batteries they use. This product is awesome! No stressing if the little one has left the switch on, just plug in and it’s all ready to be played with again!
It has great power probably starts to struggle after pulling uphill at about 4 Imaginarium carriages, hard to compare to brio carriages at this point! But on flat racks no dramas at all! That’s probably the only negative but it does an amazing job and I couldn’t recommend it enough!
