Learning Activity: Symmetry Drawings
An #Oskarslittlelearners Activity Tutorial by Jess @learnandbloom, for Oskar's Wooden Ark
September 22, 2021
Symmetry can be a tricky concept for children. Creating symmetrical drawings together is a fun and engaging way to show them what it means. Simply draw half the picture and your child can complete the other half. For older children, challenge them to draw the mirror image of their face!
If you do this fun activity with your little learners, please take a photo and share it with us on Instagram and Facebook, tagging @oskarswoodenark and using the hashtag: #oskarslittlelearners. We'd love to see what you get up to!
Materials:
· Paper
· Kitpas crayons
· Photo of child’s face
Step 1:
Fold paper in half and draw a picture with Kitpas Crayons on one side .
Step 2:
For older children, you can print out a photo of their face and cut it in half for them to complete.
Step 3:
Provide children with Kitpas crayons and invite them to mirror the other half of the picture.
Step 4:
Keep your drawings simple so they can add their own detail to create the symmetrical picture.
Benefits and Learning Outcomes:
Learning about symmetry is a great way to help kids increase their observation skills and
practice recognising patterns, which are important skills that are needed in math and reading.
